Welcome to U of L's Composition Program Wiki!

We’ve created this wiki to help generate conversation, develop relationships and networks, pose productive questions, and identify potential pedagogical directions. We hope this serves as a space where we can exchange ideas, respond to challenging texts and trends, share and receive suggestions, and offer resources as we work together to reflect upon and enhance our approaches to writing instruction at U of L.

Taming the Wiki

From time to time, we will post a relevant text concerning pedagogy and/or Composition intended to generate discussion.  These prompts will be located in a folder in the right marquee labeled “Comp Conversations”—clicking on this folder will bring up a page showing various conversation prompts. You're, of course, also welcome to post texts and pose orignial questions you think may contribute to interesting discussion--all you have to do is click the "Create a Page" button in the top right corner of the wiki and follow the directions. To respond to a particular prompt, just click on the link to that page. Once you’ve arrived at a page, you should see a paragraph (or paragraphs) of blue text, followed by the full body of the text in black.  The blue notes are initial comments and/or questions about the text.  As you scroll through the body of the text, you may notice more comments in different colors.  These indicate specific areas of interest or questions others have offered in response to the text.

At this point, how you respond is up to you.  Near the top of the personal page (just below “uoflcomposition”), there should be two buttons: “View” and “Edit.”  When you click on “Edit,” you are free to edit the page in whatever way you like.  We do recommend you make your changes in a new text color so they stand out from other responses to the text (you can change text colors by using the button that has a “T” with a bunch of colors behind it—it’s just above the top-left corner of the page). You also have the option of posting your response in the comment box at the bottom of the page. You can respond intertexually or in the comment box to answer previous respondents' questions, pose your own, express your concerns about the text, and/or engage other participants’ previous responses in any way you see fit. You can also use the “Upload Files” button in the upper-right corner of the screen to upload other files, images, audio files, or videos relevant to our discussion.
